It was a beautiful calm day, something that has been all too rare this winter. We took about an hour to walk along the Petone foreshore, along with dozens of others, and – in the dog-walking area – many dogs enjoying the freedom to be outside without a blustering wind, or teeming rain. An added interest – there was a leopard seal relaxing on the beach, safely fenced off from the crowd by the Conservation Department. When the tide rose, it (apparently) took off out to sea again, and I hope made its way back to the Antarctic waters where it belongs.
