After a brief sojourn in the east of the North Island, we have returned home. As delightful as it is to be away, to eat out, try new wines, see new sights, enjoy the scenery of our green (at this time of year at least) country, be reminded of the beauty of nature in spring where blossoms abound, it is nice to be home. Rather, what I enjoy is that first evening home; after we’ve unpacked, before we’ve done the laundry or got back into household chores, when everything is normal and comfortable. It’s harder when we come back from overseas trips – they are longer, there is the exhilaration of being overseas, and the almost always arduous journey home, often put a damper on that first evening back. Home sweet home.
