I don’t usually get to see rom coms (romantic comedies) – or I have to wait until they’re on a streaming service. But my newly retired friend and I took the recommendation of a former mentor and went off to see What’s Love Got to Do With It? There’s something delightful about a movie in the middle of the day, and I got to introduce my friend to my favourite movie theatre, the best discounted days to visit, etc etc. And the movie was a lot of fun too. Funnier than most, a bit more thoughtful (though admittedly stereotypes abounded), a very different exotic setting for some scenes, a bit more of a tear-jerker (in a good way) at the end, and of course, with Emma Thompson stealing the show playing the mother of the main protagonist. Delightful!
