The Women’s Rugby World Cup kicked off (literally) today in Auckland. It was a delight to see the huge support it has received, the largest arena in New Zealand a sell-out for the opening days games. Women’s sports have long been neglected, and New Zealand’s women rugby players have only become professionally paid recently. The women’s game though can be just as exciting (or more so) as the men’s, and on Saturday night, the game between New Zealand and Australia proved to be so. Women’s sports still take second place, sadly, but it was great to see that, at least today, they got the recognition they deserved.
